Which Is The Better Honeymoon Destination: Tahiti Or Fiji?

We are getting married at the end of September and will be on our honeymoon in October. We enjoy beaches and relaxation, but we also want a place with plenty of adventure and new experiences, as well as sight-seeing. We have narrowed it down to Tahiti or Fiji, but would like some opinions from those who have visited these places before. Also, we’d appreciate any suggestions on places to stay and things to do in either place. Thank you!

Normally my answer would be to honeymoon in Tahiti as it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world. BUT because their currency is tied to the Euro, (it’s a French island) Tahiti has become WAY more expensive for Americans than the rest of the South Pacific. This makes Fiji a comparative bargain. Staying in an over water bungalow in Tahiti costs about $1,000 a night these days, and of course food and activities are expensive as well.
If you like to snorkel, you won’t find better in the world than in the waters surrounding the islands of Fiji. We had a great stay at the Shangri-La Resort where you can snorkel for miles right off the beach. There are lots of activities both on and off the water, and the Fijian people are a delight – friendly, creative and welcoming. You’ll find lots of absolutely gorgeous resorts to choose from.
