I really want to read a good book set on the Amazon river. I really don’t like fiction. Specifically, I am look for a humorous adventure novel that has some life insight as well. I’d also like the book to be set no later than the 70s. I realize this is pretty narrow. Thanks for your help.
“The River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt’s Darkest Journey” by Candice Millard
It’s a true tale of the exploration of a previously un-navigated tributary of the Amazon by undertaken by Theodore Roosevelt, his son Kermit, and and Brazil’s most famous explorer, Cândido Mariano da Silva Rondon.http://www.powells.com/biblio/9780767913…
Read another excellent review of the book here. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Riv…
It meets most of your criteria although it’s unlikely to be funny.
For humour, check out: “In Trouble Again: A Journey Between Orinoco and the Amazon” by Redmond O’Hanlon http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/06797271…
